Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how the Chrome extension Quote Status Bar (“the Extension”) handles information. We designed the Extension to show a short inspirational quote in a temporary bottom status bar when you open a webpage.
1. Summary
- We do not require account registration.
- We do not sell user data.
- We do not collect browsing history, page content, passwords, or personal identifiers for analytics or advertising.
- Quote text may be stored locally on your device for offline/fallback display.
- When online, the Extension may request a quote from third-party public APIs.
2. Data stored on your device
The Extension uses Chrome’s local storage API
(chrome.storage.local) to keep a small cache of quote
text (up to about 50 quotes per supported language). This cache exists
only on your device so a quote can still be shown if a network request
fails.
Cached items typically include the quote text, attribution/author (when available), language code, and a local timestamp. This data is not uploaded to servers controlled by the Extension developer.
3. Network requests to third-party quote APIs
Depending on your browser language preference, the Extension may send a request to one of the following public quote services to fetch a random quote:
https://v1.hitokoto.cn/(Chinese)https://dummyjson.com/(English)https://quotes-api-three.vercel.app/(Spanish)https://citation.lecog.fr/(French)https://meigen.doodlenote.net/(Japanese)
These requests are needed only to retrieve quote content. The Extension does not intentionally send your name, email, browsing history, or the contents of the webpage you are viewing to these services. Like most web requests, the service operator may receive technical information such as your IP address, user agent, and request timing as part of normal network communication. Their handling of that information is governed by their own policies.
4. Permissions
-
storage— used solely to store and rotate the local quote cache described above. - Host permissions for the quote API domains listed above — used solely to fetch quote JSON responses.
- Content script on web pages — used solely to display and remove the temporary bottom status bar UI. The Extension does not scrape page content, inject ads, or modify site functionality beyond showing the quote bar.
5. Remote code
The Extension does not download or execute remote JavaScript. It only requests quote data in JSON/text form from the APIs listed above.
6. Children
The Extension is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the Extension’s data practices change. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will be revised accordingly. Continued use of the Extension after changes means you accept the updated policy.
8. Contact
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or the Extension’s privacy practices, please contact the developer through the support / contact channel listed on the Chrome Web Store listing for Quote Status Bar.
